What if we weren’t in control of our lives? What if our fate has been determined from the start? We live our everyday lives with the belief that we are in control of our own decisions. We make decisions in life based on our logical conclusions on what is right and wrong. What if we didn’t have to worry about making decisions? Billy can cope with the realities of aging, death and pain because of his knowledge that we lack free will and life is predetermined. The tralfamadorians can see all moments of time past, present and future simulationsly.
Mean that everything that has happened in the past is happening now and everything that has happened in the future is still happening and already has. In other words, all moments in time repeat themselves. According to the tralfamadorian belief, many people on Earth believe time progresses linearly meaning that when one moment in time passes by, it is gone forever because we are not able to see in the fourth dimension. However, the Tralfamadorians see “that the dead person is in bad condition in that particular moment, but that the same person is just fine in plenty of other moments” (Vonnegut 27). Billy can cope with the realities of aging, death and pain because of his knowledge that life is predetermined.
Billy has adapted the philosophy from the tralfamadorians that if time cannot be changed then fate has already been decided and we cannot change it.
