Jekyll and Mr. Hyde is a novel written by the Scottish author Robert Louis Stevenson. Born in Edinburgh in 1850, Stevenson was expected to be an engineer (his father was an engineer too) but he studied law at Edinburgh University and in his early twenties, he decided to be a writer. He wrote lots of novels including Treasure Island (1883) and The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr.
Hyde (1886) until his death on 3 December 1894 in Samoa. The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr. Hyde is about the duality of human nature and tells the story of Dr Jekyll and Mr. Hyde through the eyes of Mr.
Utterson. The novel is in a mysterious, serious and a dark tone and at the end of the novel, we learn that Dr. Jekyll can turn into Mr. Hyde by drinking a mysterious potion. My character, Mr.
Utterson, is the one who narrates the story and we can say that he is a dull character. He is ‘never lighted by a smile’ and only talks when it’s necessary, ‘lean, long, dusty, dreary’
