The song I am writing about is called “Better Now” by Post Malone.

The song is under the genre of Hip-Hop/Rap and was released on June 5th, 2018. The plot follows Post as he sings about a past relationship and how he has continued to keep tabs on his ex girlfriend instead of moving on from her. He explains he tries to keep her happy by offering her materialistic items to get her to stay. It is indicated that if they do meet there is a possibility of them hooking up. He starts off by saying “You probably think you are better now, better now”, indicating that things have ended between them. Later on in the song he says “I seen you with your other dude” telling the audience that she has moved on and that Post is still thinking about what could’ve been, which is implied by the line “We were looking forward to the rest of our lives”. The structure of the song goes as follows, chorus, verse 1, chorus, verse 2, chorus, bridge, and chorus one last time.

Some of the figurative language that I have seen in the song are imagery, enjambment, and rhyme. Imagery is used by Post when he states “Used to have my picture posted by your bedside, now it’s in your dresser with the socks you don’t like”. Imagery is when the artist sets a specific image or scenery in the reader’s mind. It is used very clearly as he is describes where certain objects are in said person’s room. Enjambment is used when he says “You probably think that you are better now, better now”. Enjambment is when certain phrases or words are being repeated throughout the line.

Finally he uses rhyme when he says “I did not believe that it would, no, everything came second to the benzo”.
