The aim of this study is to determine wether earthworms can be habituated to various stimuli, particularly stimuli in the form of touch and light. Stimulus is defined as any object or event that elicits a sensory or behavioural response in an organism.

While Habituation defined as a psychological learning process wherein there is a decrease in response to a stimulus after being repeatedly exposed to it. This concept states that an animal or a human may learn to ignore a stimulus because of repeated exposure. For example, a new sound in your environment, such as a new ring tone, may initially draw your attention or even become distracting. Over time, as you become accustomed to this sound, you pay less attention to the noise and your response to the sound will diminish – This diminished response is habituation. Characteristics includes that If the habituation stimulus is not presented for a long enough period before a sudden reintroduction, the response will once again reappear at full-strength, a phenomenon known as dishabituation. If noisy neighbours loud banging, were to stop and start, you’re less likely to become habituated to it.
