Sequence of development: Sequence of development is a set order of the milestones that are normally met by children/ young people by certain stages. Some examples of this is a sequence of physical development is a baby will crawl before they walk and walk before they run, in communicational development babies will say one word like “dada” and “mama” before they can say two words together. Development is something that starts from a new born baby up until 19 years of age and normally follows the sequence.
It is important to know that the sequence is just a guideline and all babies/ young people will develop at different times and may develop in a different order to the sequence. Rate of development: Rate of development is different to the sequence of development as the rate is describing how quick the child/ young person will develop now this varies from child to child. All children will develop at different rates some things such as disabilities and environment can affect the rate in which children will develop. Things in the environment that can affect the child’s rate of development are things such as not enough space, no education and more. If the child has no education or no one to learn from then the child’s development will be delayed. If there is not enough space, then there is not enough room for a child to play and explore which can also make them behind on their development because children learns a lot through play. One baby may be able to hold their head up from the age of 3-4 months and another child may not be able to do it at that age or may be able to do it before.
Why is the difference important? The importance of knowing the difference between the sequence and rate of development is so you can help children through the stages that they need help in. Knowing the difference also helps you to plan ways to help the children through these difficult stages. Anti essays. 2017. The difference between sequence and rate of development essay.
