Selective breeding is trying to improve crops by selecting different characteristics and breeding them together to get a better outcome. With these, farmers can make a higher profit with their crops by putting two crops together that produce more food. This allows creating more crops with more food and therefore, making a higher profit. Also, if a crop has genes in its DNA lines to grow faster than others, farmers can breed these lines into another crop that is similar, and result in faster growing crops. Having the benefit of faster growing crops, the yearly yield amount from the crops will increase dramatically and so will the profits. Of course there are risks in selective breeding like it can lead to loss of species variety and it doesn’t have control over genetic mutation but nothing that can be seriously harmful to humans (who said this), especially compared to what genetically modified crops are capable of doing.
