Residents of the Irob district in the Tigray regional state demonstrate today June 9, 2018, against the decision of the government to adhere the terms of the Algiers Agreement, which resulted in a definitive ruling on the border between Ethiopia and Eritrea, according to Ethiopianbrodcastion Corporate (EBC).
The Irob people called the decision unfair because it disintegrates of the people of Irob into two and affects the sovereignty of their community, Selam Hagos, Irob district government communication office head, told EBC.In their demonstration, the residents asked the government to revise its decision and to consider the impact on the Irob people.On the other hand, The Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) announced that the of Ethiopian People Ethiopian People’s Revolutionary Democratic Front (EPRDF) is to enhance the social, economic and political benefits of the peoples of the two countries, to according to today’s statement issued by the TPLF.The decision is not just only a border issue but a lot of are included to agree with, if the Eritrean government is ready to make decisions, reads the statement.Arena/ Medrek, Tigray based opposition party in its part call all Ethiopian people to stand against the decision made by the EPRDF.It is clear that EPRDF is still doesn’t show a willingness to discuss with politicians, intellectuals and the general public on the ongoing critical national issues before making such decisions, according to Arena/ Medrek’s statement.Finally, the party said large-scale public meetings and demonstrations would be called across Tigray.
