Paper Towns by John Green is a book about identity and mystery. The book starts off with a prologue starting the story of Quentin Jacobsen and Margo Roth Spiegelman and how they became friends. The story is shown through Quentin’s point of view. Quentin is a shy boy while Margo is fearless and idolized by many.

Quentin describes the first time he sees Margo a miracle and immediately falls in love with her. At 9 years old they find a dead man which forms a bond between them. Fast forward 9 years later Quentin and Margo don’t talk and he admires her from a distant. Until one day she sneaks into the room with a list of revenge for people who wronged her and they go on a night full of adventures. They spray paint, sneak into SeaWorld, and dance at midnight.

Quentin soon discovers that Margo disappears and she has left clues for him to find her. As Quentin keeps discovering the clues he soon realizes that he didn’t really know Margo, everyone had different perceptions of Margo and no one really knew her. Quentin comes obsessed with finding her he misses his prom, graduation and goes to New York with his friends to find her.

At the end when he finds her she’s shocked to see them and explained the clues weren’t for him. Quentin gets mad and realized Margo was not the person he imagined. They talk and kiss and go their separate ways.
