My life changing event was not achieving my high school diploma when I graduated. I failed the state standard test by a mere two points. I knew at that moment no high school diploma meant no college, and no career. I have to make a change.Shortly before graduation my Guidance Counselor called me into his office and he said “Ms. Sainvil I have some good and bad news.” I became nervous and anxious to hear what he had to say.

“Ms. Sainvil, congrats you’ll be graduating and walking the stage.” “But you will not be receiving a diploma.” I became emotionally distrust, and begin to cry. That day I went home to give my parents the bad news. Looking at their faces you could see that they were disappointed. At that moment I knew I had to make a change. I wanted my parents to very proud of my accomplishments.

After speaking to my parents, I went back to the school and spoke with my guidance counselor to find out what can I do to obtain diploma. I re-registered to retake the state standard test. Passing the state standard test seem a whole lot more challenging than planned. I purchase multiple study materials and studied like there’s no tomorrow. After taking the state standard test multiple time I finally got a passing score.

Two weeks later I received my high school diploma. In life you face many changes it’s how you handle the change that makes a difference. For me this event has made me a stronger and a positive person. I now have my high school diploma. My next step in life is to begin college and pursue my dream in Nursing or a crime scene investigator.
