In today’s day in age marijuana is one of the most commonly used drugs among teens and adults. Whether it is for medical reasons, socializing, obtaining a high, or escaping depression; marijuana has impacted the lives of us humans in a lively manner. For example, scientists have found that a marijuana compound can freeze and stop the spread of some types of the most aggressive cancers. Even with marijuana being an illegal drug, that doesn’t stop people from getting their hands on it.

Some people might say that marijuana affects the natural brain functions such as: memory, coordination, learning, and the ability to problem solve but then again what substance doesn’t. Besides allowing it to stay illegal causes no difference in the use, but inflicts on more important issues that need to be dealt with. Marijuana should be legalized because it can help people tremendously with medical conditions, revenue and it safer.

Taxing the sale of cannabis would provide local, state, and federal governments with funds. These funds could be used for all types of things such as: Alcohol, Drug Abuse and Mental Health Services, Block Grant, Child and Adult Care Food Program, Conservation Reserve Program, Federal Pell Grant and many more. According to Kilmer and Caulkins, authors of Considering marijuana legalization carefully: insights forother jurisdictions from analysis for Vermont, “Our report estimated that Vermont had 60,000–100,000 past-month marijuana users who spend $125–225 million per year buying marijuana, or approximately $200–350 per resident annually.” That’s in one state alone image forty-nine others. It will also save the government a lot money as well. Billions of dollars are spent every year to arrest and lock up marijuana users. Taxpayers have to bear the cost for the expense: food, housing, health care, attorney fees, court cost and other expense for these people.

In addition, if marijuana was legal was legal, the government would be able to collect taxes on education and other important causes. If marijuana was legal we would have more money to spend on more important things.
