In Stephen Crane’s short story, he is writing about a little boy and a puppy. It’s not what you think. This little boy finds a little puppy outside while he was playing. After the puppy has been there awhile, they start to love each other but, the little boy still continues to beat the pup. Even though the puppy is still being abused, he still shows his love towards the little boy. Then, everything took a turn. This little boy and the dog live in a crappy apartment in the middle of the town. The place is very beat up and not the right place for a puppy or a dog. The father of the little boy is very violent and always drunk. The father takes out all of his anger on his family and wife. He’ll throw and smash kitchen utensils, furniture, and now he is heading towards the puppy.
