In every school there is code and values in which everyone needs to follow and there are legislations to make sure they are followed to the best ability and the first one being;
Race Relations Act 1976 & 2000:
Schools have to uphold good relationships between people from different backgrounds. This was set out to try prevent any chance of racism occurring, schools are required to have this policy in place and the legislation have to be done to its best ability, tackling and racism, and they did it by making decimation illegal. This links much in with the sex decimation act of 1975 which prevents people preventing people from doing things just based upon, sex, race, skin colour, nationality and much more.
Code of Practice on the duty to promote race equality 2002, basically outlines ways schools through their race equality policy can promote race equality in their setting by reducing gap in education achievements between different ethnic groups and ensuring staff within the school are following the rules
Human Rights Act 1998 was also implemented which is basically given children and people rights in their life, here is a few;
? No one can be refused his or her right to education, but this does not mean they can attend the school of their choice.
? The human rights of people need to be balanced against the rights of others.
? Staff may physically restrain a child if in doing so they are protecting others from harm but not in a way that would be used to humiliate or punish a child.
? Schools have duty to protect the human rights of both its pupils and staff.
? Schools must actively prevent bullying as incidents of bullying may in breach of Article 14
? Schools should embrace multi-culturalism and bring a range of religious beliefs into the curriculum as per Article 9.
