I believe I will excel in this degree programme based on my accomplishments and my drive to continuously improve.
I was ranked 13th Economics side (girls) and 136th in Mauritius. Moreover, I participated in many regional and national competitions: Omnicane award, FSC Young Talent competition, Model Commission of the status of Women (winner) just to name a few. I am a proud participant of the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award which involved community work, sports, adventure training and learning a new skill.
Each week along with focussing on my studies I had to find time to perform all of the tasks mentioned above. I volunteered to tutor children in the neighbourhood weekly. Once a month my friends and I visited old age homes. Additionally we organised lunch for underprivileged children annually at school.
At the end of the programme, I had an adventurous journey which consisted of trekking and camping in the wild. This award taught valuable lessons like perseverance, self-discipline and teamwork. I was also an active member of the prefect body, I had to help in the organization of all school events and maintain discipline in the school. Doing all these concurrent activities led me to develop time management skills and organizational skills which will indubitably help me throughout college. I also did a 3 month internship at Juristax Ltd, a management company. It was an enlightening experience as I got the opportunity to work with different professionals. Assisting the smart tech department gave me a clearer vision of what I wanted to do in life. With the advices of my manager and after conducting some research work, I decided to pursue Computer science.
I already have an overview of what my future job might be, giving me an edge on others. After graduating, I plan on working in a management company to help my mother repay education loans and hopefully save money to pursue my Masters abroad. I want to further study financial technology, a thriving industry. In ten years time I picture myself as a workaholic independent woman. Sure I do not have big plans on changing the world but I sincerely wish to contribute towards the progress of my small island.
I not only deserve this financial aid but also need it. My mother, a primary school teacher, has always tried to inculcate the love of learning in me and my siblings. As she never got the opportunity to pursue tertiary studies, she made it her mission to send her 3 children to good colleges. Without the financial assistance of my father, she successfully sent my 2 elder siblings to college. It is quite difficult for her to take out yet another loan and embark on more years of indebtedness.
If selected for this scholarship, I will apply the same diligence to my collegiate studies as I have to this point. I will represent your institution well during my years in college and beyond. Thank you in advance for your consideration.
