I am going to talk to u today about a very famous person in motorsport. His name is Lewis Hamilton. He has so far won the world championship 3 times, in the years 2008, 2014 and 2015.
Lewis Carl Davison Hamilton was born on the 7th of January 1985 in Stevenage
At the age of two his parents split up and Lewis lived with his mother until he was twelve, and with his father after that. He lived with his step-mother Linda and his //half-brother Nicolas, who had cerebral palsy, but was also a professional racing driver. He took up karate at the age of 5 to defend himself, as a result of bullying at school
//Lewis’s first taste of motor racing success was when he finished second in a British radio-controlled car championship (even beating professional adults). He was 6 years old!
//He began go-karting at the age of 8 and was soon winning numerous races and championships. And then at the age of ten he had a life changing moment when he met the// famous Ron Dennis, the boss of McLaren, and got his autograph. Hamilton told him, “I want to race with u one day, I want to race for McLaren”. His reply was “phone me in nine years, we’ll sort something out then”. But Ron was obviously watching Lewis, who was winning various championship titles, winning nearly every type of race he entered, and within 3 years Ron was in touch with Lewis again. McLaren and Mercedes-Benz signed him to their youth support programme. Hamilton’s contract with McLaren meant was the youngest ever driver to secure a contract, which resulted in a formula 1 drive.
Ron Dennis saw in Lewis Hamilton the drive and ability to become one of the sports finest ever. He is quoted as saying, ‘only special drivers start their career at a top team’
The financial backing that McLaren now provided must have been a great relief for his //father, Anthony, who had entirely financed his racing for him up to this point, sometimes having to have 3 jobs at once in order to earn enough to support him. His dutiful father, was his role-model and loyal supporter and attended every single race with him. He became Lewis’s full time manager as well as running a computer company of his own. He is quoted as saying “Some of us do it so that our kids have better opportunities than we had”
//Few drivers have entered f1 with such a big bang as Lewis Hamilton. His sensational maiden season in 2007, left him 1 point away from the world championship. This remains one of the most remarkable rookie campaigns in history.
On his debut in Australia he came third, in his next race he was second, and then his sixth race of the season he came 1st, in Canada. And then a week later came 1st again in USA. Between March and October of this first year he entered 17 races, travelling all over the world to them and he also went on to come first in Hungary and then Japan. He was only 22 years old.
//In 2008 Lewis won his first World Championship title. At the age of 23, he became the youngest formula 1 champion in history. With 5 wins and a further five podiums he had won the championship title by a single point
In 2010 Lewis surprisingly had a big disagreement with his father, and his father left the company. He says this had a significant effect on his racing performance and they didn’t speak for weeks afterwards. He describes the void in their relationship as like the Grand Canyon. In 2014 the rift w
