PLAN OF INVESTIGATION For this assessment I would be focusing on Child Abuse. Our group broke down the topic into different sub-topics and I got The Effects on Girls. Child Abuse is the physical ill treatment or sexual molestation of a child. This topic caught my attention because I have a passion for helping other persons who have been through this type of situation. I would attain and practice English skills which are difficult for me. Speaking, punctuation and vocabulary are the skills I have problems with. I would like to improve my English by reading much more. I could collect relevant information by watching YouTube videos and internet. When going on the internet, I may go to university websites for information because these kinds of sites are more reliable. All books are not relevant so when doing my research, I would look for the background story behind the book.

Martina McBrideShe walks to school with the lunchShe packedNobody knows what she’sHoldin’ backWearin’ the same dressShe wore yesterdayShe hides the bruises with linenAnd lace
The teacher wonders but sheDoesn’t askIt’s hard to see the painBehind the maskBearing the burdenOf a secret stormSometimes she wishes she wasNever born
Through the wind and the rainshe stands hard as a stonein her world that she can rise aboveBut her dreams give her wingsAnd she flies to a place whereShe’s lovedConcrete angel
Somebody cries in the middleOf the nightThe neighbors hear, but they turnOut the lightsA fragile soul caught in the handsOf fateWhen morning comesIt’ll be too late
Through the wind and the rainShe stands hard as a stoneIn her world that she can rise aboveBut her dreams give her wingsAnd she flies to a place whereShe’s lovedConcrete angel
A statue stands in a shaded placeAn angel girl with an upturned faceA name is written on a polished rockA broken heart that the world forgot
Through the wind and the rainShe stands hard as a stoneIn her world that she can rise aboveBut her dreams give her wingsAnd she flies to a place whereShe’s lovedConcrete angel

REFLECTION ONEArticle one is a song. They are speaking about a little girl who attends school like an ordinary child but she is being abused by a relative. When attending school she tries to hide the bruises with pieces of cloth. I realised that there may be victims walking around the place burdened by these issues. They are trying to hide the bruises or marks of abuse from others, yet they have internal scars that continue to eat at them. It sometimes may have persons who see, but keep it to themselves. Little do they know the person or persons are going through a lot of pain and need the help. I definitely think that I am more enlightened and would never take someone’s pain for granted. The two other articles are similar to article one because the poems are speaking about little girls being helpless to their selves, afraid to speak out and also walking around being scared for life.

REFLECTION TWOThis reflection is for article two which is a poem. This poem is a rhythmic poem, it had an emphasized word. An example of an emphasized word from article two is ‘Please!’ The rhyming in the poem kept me interested in the poet’s poem and her words seemed more emphasized. When we arrived at the rhetorical question it got me thinking: Why do people have to go through things like that? The emphasized words drew my attention the most, it shows how the person is pleading and crying out for help. In article one the tone is sad, ‘…Of a secret storm, sometimes she wishes she was never born.’ A bold statement that stands out in article three was ‘I don’t think that I would have died if someone had only bothered to listen to my cries.’ The language from all three articles developed my understanding by

REFLECTION THREEI knew a little about the topic before, so as I did research on the topic I gained more knowledge. Now as my knowledge is broadening I could now be inquisitive in a positive way. As soon as I see someone behaving as though they have issues like the ones in this topic, I would advise them on how they should go about the situation discreetly and with empathy. It has also made me a better person by increasing my sensitivity and understanding of my peers. My heart goes out to anyone who has faced these things and I understand now the strength it takes to survive after a violation.ORAL PRESENTATION
My group topic was Child Abuse and my sub topic was Effects on Girls. I did a poem which was titled ‘Why’ and one of the literary devices used was a rhetorical question, which I used to make the commentator listen, think and question what was happening. I also used emotive language to evolve emphatic feelings. This was an original piece created by me.
