Body image is the way that someone sees their physical self and the thoughts and feelings that come from that. Body image has been completely changed by society; it is basically the fault of social media. Social media is everywhere , everywhere we look there is a computer, a phone , a magazine. And everywhere we look there is face , a body on that page or screen.
Social media portrays what the ‘perfect body; should look like. Do you realise that the photos of these ‘perfect bodies’ have been heavily photoshopped? And even though some people do this, they ignore it. They know the photo has been photoshopped, but to them the image remains perfect because they didn’t see the real photo before it was edited , so the photo still represents a perfect person. Social media has changed the way we view ourselves so much that none of us our happy with our appearance.
Everywhere we look there is something telling us we have the wrong hair, wrong clothes ,wrong makeup.Society makes us feel like there is something wrong with our natural appearance. Society has completely destroyed our self-confidence.
Low self-confidence can lead to eating disorders like bulimia or anorexia as we try to change the shape of our bodies to resemble these distorted images. It can also lead to people using drugs to make themselves thinner. The best way to lose weight is to eat healthy and exercise. YOU need to accept what you look like, your flaws, your imperfections and limitations. You don’t need to bow down to society’s expectations.
This speech is for you, to make you realise that you don’t need faceless people on Twitter, Instagram and Snapchat to give you compliments and make you feel good about your body. Ignore social media.
