The Nestlé company’s foundation began in the year 1866 with the creation of the “Anglo-Swiss Condensed Milk Company”. By evaporating and reducing the quantity of milk, the company obtained a concentrated product from it. Its inventor, Henri Nestlé a pharmaceutical chemist from Germany, formulated a revolutionised baby nutrifood in 1867. He launched the ” Farine Lactee”, a French definition of “Flour mixed with milk” in Vevey, Switzerland which was immediately widely praised. Cow’s milk, flour and sucrose were combined to produce nutrition for babies who cannot be breastfed. This brought lots of relief to mothers who could not produce enough milk to nourish their babies. Henri Nestle thus achieved in reducing a high mortality rate, by bringing the right and complete nutrition to babies whose mothers were not having sufficient milk.
During the same period, he started using the logo ‘avis nidus” ” Bird Nest”. The original trademark was based on his family emblem which pictures a bird on its nest. This relates to his parent’s name which, in German means “nest”. Henry Nestle modified and adjusted the emblem by inserting three baby birds being by the side of their feeding mother to show the relation between his kin’s name and his infant’s product. The emblem is now used on all Nestle products but in a such modified and adapted form.
